A fellow blogger babe, Oh Miss Engineer, has challenged me to do a “Blogger Q&A”. I thought it would be such a great way for you all to get to know me even more!
1.) Why did you start a blog?
After graduating college, I was stuck in the rut of job hunting. I was thinking, “Okay, what can I do as a hobby that I enjoy and that could help others?” While brainstorming, I realized how I keep up with certain bloggers and how I take their advice to heart whether it is about fashion or relationships or anything. Their blogs have made it seem like they are my friends. (Weird? Whatever.) Right during that thought process, one of the bloggers I follow posted about how to start your own blog. Uhm, that had to be a sign, right?
I wanted to start something where I could share not only outfit ideas, recipes, etc., but also advice. A place where I could offer up current/past experiences and show the love of Jesus to readers. Somewhere that maybe I could change just one person’s mood that day or that they would read my post and feel a burden lifted off of them knowing someone else gets it, knowing someone else has been there or is struggling with the same thing.
That’s when Life is Civil was born. I’m so new to the blogging world and learning as I go, but after my first post I had three people reach out to me about how they really needed to hear those words. That’s what keeps me going!
2.) Where do you get your writing inspiration from?
My writing inspiration comes from everyday life. I keep a pencil and paper on hand and jot down ideas throughout the day sometimes. I get inspired by friends, family, church, everything.
3.) What words do you have for those who are scared to start their blog?
DO IT! It is overwhelming, I get it. “What if no one reads my blog?” Friends, trust me they will. Even if it is one person and that person is your mom… hey you gotta start somewhere. The blogging community is awesome. You will meet people who influence and change your life. Excuses only hold you back in your happiness.
4.) What are the ups and downs of having your own blog?
There are positives and negatives to blogging. I love the community and how everyone supports each other. It is beyond amazing. Mean girls are a thing of the past in the blogging world. While sometimes I feel I need to stray away from some subjects to be politically correct, it is also nice to know it’s MY blog. If someone doesn’t have the same beliefs or doesn’t connect with me, that’s OK. Not everyone is going to love your blog. You find your area.
The downside right now for me is it is time consuming! Which anything that is going to be great definitely takes time. Juggling a full-time job and blogging is a learning process for sure. Growing social media is another hard and time consuming task. Patience is not always my virtue and if you’re going to blog you have to learn to be patient.
5.) What other interests do you have besides your blog?
I am a full-time geotechnical engineer in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. When I am not working, I love to do any activity outside. I love nature, and anytime we can travel to embrace it we do! I also enjoy cooking, working out, spending time with family and friends (I have a niece and nephew I am mildly obsessed with), spending time with the Lord (try bible journaling if you’re into crafts), good books, and occasionally a long Netflix binge. Live music is something that always makes me happy. I am Dave Matthews Band groupie (basically) and travel to at least 2-3 shows per year now. Oh did I forget to put shopping? Yea, I do that online at least 3-4 times per day. Whoops.
6.) Where do you hope your blog will take you into the future?
Right now, I am making short term goals for the blog. Such as more frequent posts and newsletters. I would love to meet other bloggers around me! There is one great one that you should be following too, her happy spirit will fill you with joy! Check out Lowe Co Petite here.
Other goals are consistent photos and Instagram aesthetic. I also hope to build more brand relationships. As of now though, I am overjoyed with the progress Life is Civil has made in such a short time.
7.) Who are you inspired by?
I don’t think I miss any of Chronicles of Frivolity posts, like ever. COF is the blog that inspired me to start my own. Others I love are: The Teacher Diva, Haute Off the Rack, Carrie Bradshaw Lied, Brighton the Day, The Sweetest Thing and Southern Curls and Pearls.
I’d love to answer any questions you have. If you are interested in learning more you can click the “About” tab up top.
Happy Hump Day friends! You are half way there!
